AP sports photographer Dave Martin died doing the thing he loved: capturing timeless moments with his camera. On Tuesday night, Texas A&M defeated Duke in the Chick-fil-A bowl game after completing an unprecedented comeback. Martin rushed to the field to get this photo of Texas A&M head coach, Kevin Sumlin, getting the infamous “Gatorade ice bath” as soon as his team sealed the victory.
It was the last photo Dave Martin, 59 years old, would take.
After taking this shot, he collapsed on the field and died of a heart attack.
